Modeling Gene Regulation with AI - Thesis Project

Integrating a biological understanding of transcription with an engineering & AI background, I present a novel approach to comprehensively model gene expression using cutting-edge machine learning techniques.

Drones to Ensure Nuclear Power Plant Safety in an Emergency

For my 4th year Capstone design project teamed with Ben Agro, Jerry Chen, and Connor Lee (currently in progress) we are designing drones using a wide range of hardware and software tools under the theme of Nuclear Power Plant safety.

Sexually Selected Computer Code

This project is a pioneering attempt to blur the line between the digital and biological realms. I present an approach to optimizing computer programs using evolutionary algorithms by recombining their instructions in the same way that DNA is recombined through sexual selection.

Emergent Dynamics of Probabilistic Neurons

In this project, I created an array of 8,000 neurons, each connected to their nearest neighbours. I then created an update rule, such that each activated neuron starts with an equal, nonzero probability of activating each of its neighbours. Inspired by the adage “neurons that fire together, wire together”, I run a simulation to see what emergent structures form.

Minimax Chess Engine in C

This project was a daunting exercise in pointers and memory management, stemming from my first year EngSci programming course, CSC190. The final engine can resolve a minimax search 5 moves deep in under 1 second. Try your own skills against it!

Telescope

For a science project in Grade 10 I designed and built a fully functioning Newtonian reflector telescope. Check out some of the photos of its construction and ones I took through its lens!
